Mall in National Day mode

The Star, August 6, 2018

LOT 10 in Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, is giving Malaysians a reason to celebrate the dawn of a new era this National Day.

The shopping mall has lined up a series of events throughout August designed to bring Malaysians of different backgrounds together in conjunction with National Day.

The series of events was launched by YTL Land & Development public relations and communications director Richard Leen.

Lot 10 is collaborating with Celebrity Fitness, MMA Monarchy Gym and independent yoga instructor Shazana Zulkifli to come up with #goodsweat, a series of workouts to get Malaysians on their feet.

The classes will take place over 20 Saturdays until next January 2019 at Lot 10’s basketball court on Level 3.

The workouts cover activities such as Bends & Beats which involves EDM Yoga and Reggae Yoga; Dance Cardio; Combat Core which involves Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai, and Unplugged HIIT which are all fun, free and fast.

The latter, Unplugged HIIT, is a “new breed of workout that combines training with live music,” said host Patricia Knudsen.

Lot 10 also aims to highlight the talent and efforts of Malaysian women through the We.Women Market – In Bloom Artisan Showcase.

There are 18 local artisans selling products ranging from jewellery and perfume to cookies at Lot 10’s Concourse.

Among the goods available at the market is local fragrance brand Olfac3, founded by Aien Mokhtar.

Some of the other vendors are Khoo Kies which sells a variety of cookies, cakes and biscuits, and JAS & Co Handmade which creates handmade jewellery.

From Aug 25 to Sept 2, a line-up of activities to ignite the patriotic spirit will be held at the concourse in conjunction with National Day.

Another thing to look out for this month is the Merdeka Kraf event on Aug 25 and 26. Organised by The Language Art Studio, the exhibition will feature ceramics, paintings, writings and woodwork by Malaysians at the mall’s concourse.

Five Malaysian craftsmen and artisans will hold workshops on making natural soap bars and wood craft among other things.

The Language Art Studio has also set up traditional games such as batu seremban, gasing, congkak and caroms in the mall.

On the Aug 30 and 31, the mall will screen the local documentary Rediscovering Each Other to celebrate our diversity and different cultures at its Basketball Court.

The documentary was filmed across Malaysia by the Rojak Projek, which is an initiative by social enterprise TRP Creatives,

Then from Aug 27 to Sept 2, be prepared to sing, dance and perform your heart out at the concourse with the mall’s inaugural open-stage showcase for amateur performers.

The event welcomes singers, dancers, musical performances as well as stand-up comedy acts to sign up for one of the six slots available every day over the course of seven days.

Just to spice things up, there will be a singing competition on the same stage from Aug 28 leading to the finale on Sept 2, with prizes to be won for 10 final participants.
