Frog Boost app will add more teaching material to reduce workload

KUALA LUMPUR: Come March, teachers’ workloads will be lessened further.
Syllabus content from all core subjects will be uploaded to an online platform for more effective teaching and learning.
With the click of a button, teachers can access and share syllabus content created by other teachers instead of spending hours coming up with teaching materials.
This is in line with Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik’s recent announcement of easing teachers’ workload, where five initiatives consisting of nine interventions will be carried out.
Currently, Mathematics, English and Science contents and quizzes are available.
“It’s a baseline standard for teachers – if they feel their notes aren’t enough, they can use the material available on Frog Boost to add to their teaching and learning.
“This digital platform enables teachers to conduct lessons more effectively.
“They can teach with readily prepared lessons and quizzes, and students have access to fun revision material.
“There are lesson objectives so that teachers know what they are teaching,” FrogAsia executive director Lou Yeoh told at a press briefing yesterday.
FrogAsia is the provider of the Frog VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) under the Education Ministry’s 1BestariNet project.
The application, Yeoh said, is a set of curated teaching and learning content aligned with the national curriculum, and is a repository of sites curated by FrogAsia in collaboration with Pelangi Publishing Group and school teachers who are Frog Advocates.
It covers the syllabus from Year One to Form Five.
Introduced in July last year, Yeoh said the assessments tabulate marks each day a teacher assigns work for their students.
From these scores, teachers can view how their students are progressing and where they can improve.
“Our role is to ensure that teachers have the technology and support to enable this to happen.
“Our passion is to transform education through technology,” she said.
FrogAsia component owner (teaching and learning) and head of support Aizat Izyani Mujab said the app is not merely about creating and sharing content for effective teaching and learning, but it also increases teachers’ confidence about the quality of their work.
Yeoh highlighted some of FrogAsia’s achievements last year, which included 669 schools in Sabah going paperless and saving RM1mil in cost.
Additionally, within two months, the app had shown an improvement of 46% in subject results, as well as an increase in students’ self-motivation.
